First-Hand Struggles

I pray we can find solutions for some of the fractures in our healthcare system soon. There are times and places when patients need to access acute care services and shouldn't have to drive to four different urgent care centers in 24 hours for a simple scan. If we can step back and try to perform root-cause analysis on our systems of care, maybe then we can begin looking for solutions to our broken healthcare system.

An Osteopathic Approach to Work

But when you consider that Mr. Chesky's company employs humans and not machines, an isolated, nomadic existence would not provide the engagement of mind, body, and spirit that those employees crave.

Entering my first multi-disciplinary rounds (MDR) of the month on my second inpatient medicine rotation of residency suddenly became a lot more stressful. Not only was I expected to lead the discussion of all 18 of our team's patients (of whom only 7 I was actually taking care of personally), but the CCO of the health system, the second-in-command doctor and top dog of the non-physician clinical policies and practices, was there, too. If I bombed this meeting, it would surely mean the end of my chances to get into the Emergency Department here.
